Lazy Sunday Links - Esprit Cabane

I've have had tragically little time for visiting in the blogosphere lately.  I'm working on ways to get better organized and tomorrow is a holiday in Canada.  I'm planning to spend it surfing.

...in between breakfast with friends, some digging in the garden and dinner and a movie with other friends... huh.

The good news is that I did find one treasure recently that I think you'll like.  Esprit Cabane has tons of great do-it-yourself projects and environmentally friendly ideas.  You could be there for hours!

I'm also running a little experiment on twitter.  I'm publishing a short story I wrote in little tiny chapters.  I started Thursday and will likely continue for the next several days.  The writers among you might like to have a look.  The project is certainly giving my editing skills a workout.

I hope it's as interesting to read as it is to write!

I hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

By now you probably all know that Pia Jane Bijkerk has published her first book.

Paris: Made by Hand

I was lucky enough to see an advance copy of Paris: Made by Hand when I visited with her in Amsterdam last month.  And, oh my goodness, it is LOVELY!

She's found all sorts of little artisanal shops in Paris and grouped them by 'wanders' - so if you want to use it as a travel guide, you easily can, with plenty of time to stop into a cafe.  It's as beautiful as her blog and makes me want to go back to Paris immediately.

So if you're planning a trip, or if you just want to dream, please do take a look at Paris: Made by Hand

Congratulations, Pia!  Well done!

My second link for this week is even more personal than 'my friend has published a book'.  In fact, it's 'my sister-in-law has started a blog' and I couldn't be more pleased.

Catherine Craig is an amazing artist in fibre and clay.  Her blog highlights her work and the processes behind the finished pieces.

Yay Catherine!

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Rearranged Design

Today I bring you FORTY house tours.  Well, not me personally.  They've been organized over on Rearranged Design, a very cool blog that, for reasons I cannot fathom, it's taken me till now to find.  Enjoy!

Blog Full of Jelly has very generously posted a few holiday gift card pictures for you to download.  Now that's starting the holidays off on the right foot!

Speaking of holidays, I might just have to make a few of these mini Christmas trees.

But not just yet.  I went thrifting for fabric yesterday and scored big-time.  So now I'm making curtains.  Whoo!

Hope you're all enjoying a lovely, lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Just a little corner of my hometown...

One of the best things I've done as a blogger is to sign up with SiteMeter.  This free service lets me know where my traffic is coming from and who's linking to me.

It's coming from places like Junk Sophisticate.  Thanks for the link, Candy!  It's also coming from Small Space Style.  Thanks for making me your cool blog find of the week, Lisa!

And while I check out the blogs I find through SiteMeter, I have a little look through their link lists, where treasures abound.  Like....

Did you know Ki Nassauer has her own blog!  She's like the Pope of Junking and vintage design!  And now she's one of us!  I am so excited!

And now I have to go to work.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

And if any of you have linked to me and for some reason I haven't seen it on my SiteMeter reports, please send me an email so I can thank you properly.

Lazy Sunday Links

First up, I asked if anyone is participating in NaBloPoMo.  Sharon tells me that The Key Bunch is.  Yay!  I've been blogging for nearly two years and this is the first time I've joined.  I admire people who are willing to just jump right in!

Writing a design blog means I have access to all kinds of good, beautiful design ideas and projects.  It can get a little overwhelming sometimes.  Sometimes, I need a break.  Sound familiar?  Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Craftastrophe.  "Because handmade isn't always pretty".

If you're eating while browsing, you'll want to chew and swallow before heading over.  Especially before viewing this one

And, um, some of it is not suitable for work.  If you know what I mean.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday.  And please, send me your links!

Lazy Sunday Links

Just a Little Something I'm Not Working on Today...

I had an email from Sharon this week, introducing her lovely blog The Key Bunch, which she writes with her friend Rekha.  If you love Indian design (as I do), you will love this blog!

And you've probably seen this already, but I wanted to be sure nobody missed it.   Pia Jane Bijkerk continues to surprise and amaze with her many, many talents.  And this week, she added composing/performing to the list with this piece (be patient - it may take a minute to load, but it is so totally worth the wait!).

We're moving tomorrow and Tuesday, so I'll be taking the week off from blogging.  I'm assuming, of course, that the internet hook-up will go more smoothly than last time...

Hope you're enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Found Inside a Closet

Brad Ford emailed me to let me know about his new design blog.  And since I love it when people email me about their work, I had to check it out.  And, yes, Design Therapy gets the May December Home seal of approval!

I helped a friend launch his new blog yesterday.  It only has one post so far, but he has plans...  I'll give it a week or two and then let you know where to find him.

Watch this space!

Lazy Sunday Links

Poetic Home came to my attention this week (see what leaving a comment on Flickr can do?).  It is the very beautiful blog of Grace Light, a photo stylist with a keen eye for a vintage treasure.  She also has  an Etsy shop and all the profits from it go to the National Trust.  Very cool, Grace!

Another great Flickr find was Chez Larsson, written by Benita.  She's based in a suburb of Stockholm.  And writes about "house, home and hobbies".  And the photography is gorgeous, as you can see from this photo:

I want that living room!

I'm sure you're all following Haus Maus, Holly Becker's blog about setting up home in Germany.  I must admit I'd missed a few posts.  I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this post with the before and after's of her entryway.  It's almost the exact configuration of the one in my new apartment.

I guess I have no excuse for not making it gorgeous...

And one last thing you've probably seen, but it's such a great idea, I want to make sure no one missed it.  Grace at Design*Sponge runs DIY Wednesdays.  They're always full of good ideas, but this week's....  It wasn't until I read the whole thing that I realized that the curvy, gorgeous hall shelf is actually an Ikea magazine holder (of course, I would paint mine white to go with my favourite living room...).  Brilliant!

OK.  That's it.  I have to go get ready for work.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Too Lazy for Sunday Links

Perchance to Dream.....

Sorry!

I took on some free-lance writing work this week and it's taking up all of my time.

I'm sure I'll settle in to a routine soon... like... just before we move!

Pffft!

Things are going to be a little sporadic around here for awhile.  But I'll do my best to check in whenever I can, because I hate being away from the internet.

I miss you all so much!

Lazy Sunday Links

DSC06909

Ooooooh!  Vanessa of Do You Mind If I Knit has finished a major renovation and posted pictures for us all to enjoy.

A little earlier in the process, Kim of Desire to Inspire is getting her kitchen redone by Greentea Design.  And blogging the whole process, brave girl!  Great idea.  Best of luck, Kim!

Feeling like doing some doodling?  Head over here and watch the day disappear!

The Belgian Waffle has been doing a wonderful Village Fete series.  People sent in photos of clever things they did with vegetables.  And office supplies!  Lots of fun, really.  And no worries about the weather.

Hope you're all enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Picture 127

A little taste of Autumn for Corine...

A  post on More Ways to Waste Time led me to Wallhogs.  You send in a photo and they make a re-usable vinyl wall cling.

I'm thinking...

I could get an eight foot-long wall vinyl of the magnificently ugly sofa and take it with me to our next place!

And my brother (thanks John!) sent me this link - an article about Spoonflower.  They will take your own design and print it on fabric.

And I'm thinking...

Matching curtains!!!!

Which is way too much thinking for a Lazy Sunday.  So go check out Woolgathering.  Elizabeth Perry posts pages from her sketchbook for you to enjoy.  I'm totally hooked...

Hope you're all enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday!

Laziest Sunday Links EVER!

They Were Empty When We Got Them, Really!

Phase One of our move - the moving of ourselves and immediate necessities to our temporary digs - takes place tomorrow.  I finally got to go in and have a look at it today.  It's actually quite nice.  A bit like a cottage, I think.  It even comes with some furniture for us to use.

I really want to show you pictures of what may well be the ugliest sofa in the history of sofadom.  But that will have to wait awhile, I'm afraid.

Phase Two - the moving of our less immediate necessities and the very big and scary baking equipment into storage - and Phase Three - the sending of the extraneous to auction - still loom large.

Add to that the fact that, while our internet connection in the new place has been requested, we have been given no firm date when it will actually be granted, and we have the makings of a blogging blackout.

I will be taking a break from my blogs for the next two weeks, while I get organized and sorted.

While I'm away, please do check out the other sites in my links list, if you haven't already, and the links to other sites in the BlogHer network (I told you it was lazy....).

Have a great couple of weeks everyone!  And please come back to see me on the 18th!

Lazy Sunday Links

I love this installation, called Drawerment by Hubero Kororo, found via The Style Files.  I'm inspired to take a second look at those orphaned drawers I keep seeing at the auction!

Have I told you about Design Without Reach?  Very funny, very tongue-in-cheek approach to classic modern design.

And a couple of eco-friendly design blogs came to my attention this week.

Green Your Decor "was born both of frustration and inspiration:

Frustration in my attempts to find sustainable and eco-friendly products while decorating my new home; and inspiration to do something to reduce my own carbon footprint and help style-conscious homeowners and decorators who don’t want to sacrifice the planet for a great look." (quoted from the website).

I love that after each post, Jennae lists why a particular product is green.  It's a big help in the decision-making process!

Rethink and Reuse started in April of this year and "pays homage to design ideas with social responsibility and environmental sustainability in mind. In everyday speak: this site honors turning something old into something new." (quoted from the website).  And yes, that's my chest (er... dresser) in the most recent post, but that's not why I'm linking to her!!!!

That's all for this week.  Hope you're all enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Sweetie!

OK, you all probably know about this one, but just in case there's someone left on the planet who doesn't know about Erin and her lovely site, Design For Mankind (what is wrong with you???) let me direct you here to download and/or purchase issue ONE of Mankind Mag.  The download is FREE.  The print version is $8.95 and worth every penny!

I'm already counting the days to the release of issue TWO!

I know how much you love house tours.  This one from Simply Nutmeg took my breath away.  I actually thought, "Hmmm.... too bad we're moving," when I saw those stairs.

What's better on a lazy Sunday (especially if it's a long weekend) than a slide-show?Danny Seo has one up on Martha Stewart's site with 25 Eco-Chic ideas for your home.

Happy browsing!

The photo at the top, you ask?

A purely gratuitous picture of my grand-niece at her Aunt Denise's bridal shower last week.  Yes, she's a little blurry.  She's always on the move!

Eco-Friendly Slipcovers from Sure-Fit

I had an email from Glenda at Sure-Fit, telling me about some new designs.

For a quick, recession-proof and environmentally friendly way to update your living room, Sure-Fit has a new line of organic cotton slipcovers.

Riverstone was added to the collection for the Spring 2008 line.  These 100 percent organic cotton slipcovers, endorsed by Cotton Incorporated, are soft, durable, machine washable, and most of all, eco-friendly.

Over 8.7 million tons of furniture and home furnishings are dumped into municipal landfills annually.  Organic cotton slipcovers are a great, easy way to reduce waste and help the environment.

Something to keep in mind when faced with an ugly sofa or chair!

Thanks, Glenda!

Lazy Sunday Links

Just a little photographic temptation for Leah, courtesy of I Has a Hotdog.

You probably all know about this already, but just in case... Decor8 is having a mood board contest.  Deadline to enter is June 23.  There's still time!

I've been a fan of Tumbleweed Tiny House Company for quite some time, so I was pleased to see this post (complete with video!) on Apartment Therapy Re-Nest.  Of course, to make the place truly environmentally friendly, she might want to stop driving it around town!

While my computer was down this week, I had some time on my hands.  So I did what any normal, clear-thinking woman would do.  I used my husband's computer to launch another blog.  It's called Stratford Daily Photo and it's part of the City Daily Photo network.

If you haven't discovered City Daily Photo yet, you're in for a treat.  People from all over the world post one photo every day of their hometown.  It's a great way to see the world, without the jet lag!  There are a lot of very talented photographers out there and I was so pleased to be accepted!

And, in case you missed it in the comments section,  Bill Miller has a website!  Thank you Juliet and Nora for sending me the link.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday.  And to the Dads - Happy Father's Day!

Artist Bill Miller

Juliet sent me an email linking to a gallery announcement featuring the work of Bill Miller.

He makes collages out of old linoleum and discarded vinyl flooring. Crazy good collages!

Since then, I've tried to do some research, but I cannot find a website for him.

If anyone has more information, please leave a comment or send me an email. This work is amazing!

ecojot

I am not the most organized person in the world (please stop laughing), but with multiple blogs, I have to at least make the attempt.

These notebooks help.  One for each blog.

100% recycled paper and pretty, too!  From ecojot.  Click over. It's a great, animated website!

Sunshine on the Deck

Lots of loveliness this week!

With all the cool programming options that are available these days, I often find myself disappointed and, frankly, bored with on-line catalogues.  Most of them are static and harder to navigate than a paper catalogue.

So I was charmed and delighted with this offering from Tracy Kendall Wallpaper.  Be sure to turn up the volume - each collection has a different song to go with it!

Speaking of wallpaper, here's a site that let's you turn your favourite photo into a photomural for your wall.  Upload a photo, they send you a PDF which you can print out on your own printer.  Best of all, the service is FREE! Found via Ikeahacker.

This post on Emma's Designblogg (one of my daily reads) sent me over to Scandinavian Brands Online.  They ship!  Worldwide!

And if you're dreaming of sunshine and warmth and a whole lot of happy colour, check out this post on Interiors.

That's it for this week.  Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Flowers at the MarketSF Girl By Bay posted these lovely pictures showing new uses for mini muffin tins.  I have one that I use for desk supplies....

We gave up our television three years ago and, for the most part, I don't miss it.  And it's so much easier to decorate without that to contend with.  But every once in awhile, I miss the decorating shows...

Did you know Ikea has makeover videos?  You do now!  Each makeover in three parts.  Enjoy!

Pottery Barn also has videos on their site.

Haute Nature did a story on artist Lisa Kokin this week.  I clicked the link and, Oh My Goodness!  You have to check this out.  Finally a use for all those vintage buttons!

The Style Files is a gorgeous blog.  If you haven't discovered it yet, this post is the perfect introduction.  Isn't that a beautiful, soothing, restful home?

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

And if you're celebrating Mother's Day, have a happy one!
