Dining Room Inspiration

jawcey

We have a friend coming for dinner tonight.  Thankfully, she's coming for the food and friendship, rather than the decor.

We moved in a couple of months ago, got all the boxes emptied and ran out of cash.

Candlelight can make any venue charming and soon enough it will be summer and we can drag a table out under the trees.

wanderingone

I know my lack of enthusiasm for the dining room has more to do with the fact that we haven't been here long enough to collect a lot of memories.  Christmas added to the store.  And we'll be starting the potlucks up again soon.

*Susie*

I'm as swayed by the lure of a pretty chair or stylish table as the next person.  But, let's face it, decor is the fluffy dessert of a life well-lived.  It fills a role, but without something substantial to back it up, it's not really going to sustain you, is it?

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with a bit of eye candy....

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Bookshelves

OK. I'm back....  sorry for missing yesterday's post, but my holiday season actually got busier as it wore on and in the end, I succumbed to a cold.  Booo!

I'm feeling better now though and promise to behave myself from here on in.

One of my accomplishments over the holidays was to unpack a couple more boxes of books.  Which led me to Flickr, to see what other people do with theirs....

I love the look of this arrangement, especially in this white and airy room.  But I do wonder how easy it is to find a particular book when they're arranged by colour instead of alphabetically within categories.

I think I've just revealed my total dorkiness to the world, haven't I?

Eccentric Scholar

I love tucking storage in wherever it will fit.

Horizontally...

Vertically...

Floatingly.... (hmmm.... Alan didn't think floating shelves would be strong enough for books!)

It wouldn't be a May December Home without a kitty!

Take a Picture Tuesdays

More bedroom inspiration from Flickr.

I love the colours in this quilt.  Especially against the crisp, white sheets.

Jesse Wagstaff

More juxtapositions - the roughness of the wood with the smooth blue glass,  the red pillow against the white background.

I'm thinking a nap just happened here.

And another is about to begin...

Curtains

We've been in our new house for six weeks and, aside from one pieced-together temporary thing on the bedroom window (it's held together with pins!), I haven't given a thought to the curtains.  This cannot continue.  It's time to go searching through Flickr.

These would offer a bit of privacy without blocking any precious light.

Audinou

I love curtains that waft in the breeze.  Though maybe not in the winter....

Ctd 2005

Oooooh!  I love the hardware on these!

emdot

OK.  I'm inspired now....

Take a Picture Tuesdays - I Miss My Bedroom!

I went wandering through Flickr this morning, looking for bedroom pictures.

Soothing....

blupics

Restful....

basibanget

Because mine still looks like this.

But at least it doesn't look like this!

Orin Optiglot

There is good news on the horizon.  The new window should be installed next week, which will do wonders for the coziness factor.  And if Murphy's Law is at all reliable (and I know for a fact that it is!), the window-installer and the carpenter will arrive on the same day and get in each others' way.

Which'll be fine by me!

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Living Small

We've had our first major snowfall of the year.  There's something about the onset of winter that makes me want to draw in and get cozy.  Living large is fine for the summer time, but this time of year, I'm all about living small....

PinkMoose

Doesn't really look small, but this is the view from the kitchen...

jawcey

I could spend the entire winter snuggled up in a bed like this.

This dude's got the right idea!

Take A Picture Tuesdays - More Wallpaper!

I realize it's actually Wednesday, but it's been that kind of week.  My annual cold hit early and I've been chugging the Nyquil.  Through a STRAW!  Which, while enjoyable, is.....

OK.  I just can't think of a downside to that one.

katielips

I'm also NaBloPoMo-ing on my personal blog.  Any design bloggers taking part?  Leave me a comment and I'll link to you on Sunday.

I've taken on some freelance writing to help keep us fed this winter.  It's cool, like being paid to do homework, but it's time consuming.

normanack

And then yesterday, I got called in to work.  Which is fine, which is great, except that they laid me off a week and a half ago.  And since then, I've been getting almost as many hours as I did before the lay-off and I'm sorry, but a lay-off, with all the fretting and the tears and the sick feeling in the stomach (and that was just my boss, getting ready to give me The Speech), isn't it supposed to include some time OFF?

Just asking, is all.

Anyway.  Wallpaper is the theme for this week.  Love it or hate it, eventually, it always ends up like this.

Clav

Sometime this week, I'll show you a few alternatives I've come up with.  I would say I'd do it tomorrow.  But who among you would believe me?

I've lost all credibility....

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Moving Day

Well, Move Number Fifteen is successfully done.

We had a lot of stuff...

But we worked really hard.

When it was over, the reward was a hot bath...

I'm so happy to have my internet back!  I'll be back to regular posting tomorrow!

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Kitchen Ideas

Since we were over at the new house today, figuring out plans for the kitchen, I thought I'd share a few Flickr lovelies with you.

Like this amazing kitchen door.  Love the paint colour!

*Susie*

Hmm.... might be a bit late in the game to add one of these....

Qole Pejorian

The words "sunny" and "kitchen" just seem to belong together, don't they?

przemko.stachowski

Something tells me fantastic meals are cooked up in here....

We also did an amazing amount of painting.  Time for a glass of wine and a movie...

Take a Picture Tuesdays - The Home Office

Now that I have an actual work-from-home type freelance job (no, I'm still at the furniture store.  I tell everyone I "like variety") it's time to start thinking of a decent home-office set-up.

In our temporary digs, the office space is tucked into one end of the kitchen.  It's pretty crowded, and there's often a rack of laundry drying behind me (yeah, like I'm going to show you pictures...).  But, as I've mentioned, we'll be moving again soon.  And the new place has a whole room that can be used as an office.  Oh the luxury!

Time to search Flickr for some inspiration...

I love the desk/shelving combination in this one.  Such clean lines!

Fernanda Mancini

A desk by the window is always a bonus.  If you don't let yourself get distracted...

dierken

This would probably be better - all the light, but less distraction.

defrost.ca

.Of course, Alan will need a spot to work, too....

I'd love a skylight like this.  Do you think the upstairs neighbours might object?

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Other Peoples' Apartments

We have settled happily into our temporary digs.  And I'll have a few pictures to share later in the week.  But today I felt curious about other peoples' apartments...

I love the beige and white of this kitchen.  It's so serene.

Magnetbox

I do love a big jumble of pots and pans to choose from.

shnnn

Clean, serene and just look at that view!

lime*monkey

And let's face it, the nicest apartment in the world isn't really a home unless you have someone special to share it with.  Plus, check out that shower curtain - guaranteed smiles...

shnn

Thanks for the peak inside everyone!

Tomorrow, I'll show you my ugly sofa....

Take a Picture Tuesdays - Blue Rooms!

Well, in our coloured room series, we've covered most of the rainbow, but we haven't done blue.

hottholler                                                                                                                  lynnsta

This was fun.  It reminded me of singing a rainbow with my mother when I was little.

Tomorrow - Decluttering!

I know, I'm excited, too.
