Alan is a baker.
This has obvious benefits to me as a human being in terms of a plentiful supply of fresh bread. It also has benefits in terms of access to used restaurant equipment.
Of course, since he outfitted his bakery with said used equipment, good communication is really important. "Don't touch this," he'll say about anything he actually plans to use. As near as I can figure, the rest is up for grabs.
And really, it's such gorgeous stuff and so useful around the house.
Like this giant wisk that became a chandelier out on the deck.
We discussed it and he agreed that it was unlikely that he would ever need to make forty pounds of Pavlova. So, candle-holder it is!
He also came into possession of a truck-load of industrial bread pans. These are really cool - four pans bound together. It allows him to get the bread in and out of the oven much faster. And the extras make great shelving!
It does go both ways in this relationship. I have, occasionally lost a new paintbrush to the kitchen.
As long as I 'm kept well-supplied with foccaccia, I don't complain.
And I'd like to welcome all of my new readers! I see by my Sitemeter that some of you had a good look around. Thank you! I hope you like what you see and will keep checking back with me.
Feel free to leave comments, ask questions, suggest good links. Most of all, have fun!

Whew...your title had me a tad nervous (what with the previous decor-porn title of days ago). LOVE the wisk!
and yippee for your fame, a very nice mention indeed
I was really pleased with the article.
And the porn references are just me having fun with the search engines. But I'll behave for awhile....
Thanks for commenting!
Well since you welcomed us to you blog, I just wanted to say I've been reading it since beginning of July, and absolutely love you ideas, spirit, wits, and humour!
Thank you!
Thanks so much, Cybelle!
i just have to say that i LOVE that you can take an item and remake its purpose. the whisk/chandelier? brilliant! (and completely fabulous.)
Thanks so much, Brandi!
Yes, that whisk has brightened many a late-night dinner conversation.
I like to think there'll be more of them popping up here and there, making people smile!
I'm guessing that the whisk was originally owned by Rubeus Hagrid or his half-brother Grawp?
Love what you did with the industrial bread pans, too. Would they be a good size for storing CD's?
Hee hee! You should see the mixer it goes with (it's in actual daily use, so I can't turn it into a plant stand or anything...)!
Sadly, the loaf pans are just that bit too narrow for CD's. Though you could turn them horizontally and use them for DVD's without too much wasted space.
I love the beater candle holder! I used to work in a kitchen...so it is just so cool!
I do think used restaurant supply stores have the best stuff!
