A friend of ours, who grew up in England, came for dinner one night last winter. And as he hung up his coat, unwound his scarf and dusted the snow off himself, muttered, "This country does NOT support human life!"
I think he's right. Our winters are long and brutal. Our summers are short but intense. There is almost nothing in between.

There are a few compensations, though. One of them has to be sitting on the porch.

You don't need anything grand (though, enjoy it if you have it). A small spot with room enough for a chair and a place to rest a drink will do...

Catch a breeze. Indulge in some dreaming. Catch up with a friend.
Enjoy!

I LOVE porches
I spent summers in my grandmothers victorian house with a great big wrap around porch and a PORCH SWING.
sitting eating peaches from her trees and watching lightening storms is one of my most cherished memories
decks, patios, terraces - they're ALL porches to me!
Even the tiniest one counts!
I remember shelling peas with my English Nana when I was three, sitting on her back porch - which was really just a step - such happy memories!
