Ladder Bookcases

The other idea that I've used from "Decorating Junk Market Style" are these ladder bookcases (somewhat modified).

The ladder belonged to my Dad and I thought it was really cool and loved the thought of using something of my Dad's for the rest of my life.

Until that is, Alan climbed it to put the new numbers on the side of our building. That went fine, but, come time to retract the extension part of the ladder, it started to lean the wrong way. Like, out into TRAFFIC!!! And the thing was HEAVY. So here we were, brand-new to Sebringville and we very nearly caused an accident that could conceivably have closed down a major highway.

So I decided to use Dad's ladder for the rest of my life in an indoor application.

The project in the book calls for old floor grates as shelves, but, hello! They're way too pretty to hide under stuff and, besides, I didn't have any, so I used scrap wood instead and it works just fine.

Love the ladder. It looks great! My friend uses hers for a linen holder and adhered a glass shelf to the top rung for display. Fun stuff!

That sounds really nice! I'm always happy to post readers' pictures, by the way....

Thanks for writing in!
